What motivates our amazing volunteers?
"Giving back" and "paying it forward" are two things we hear from those who volunteer their with FIRST. We know that volunteering. whether at events or with a team - has enormous and lifelong impacts for everyone involved. Each and every student, teachers, event volunteer, mentor, coach and family member grows each season as they interact with each other.
What makes volunteering at events so much fun?
Volunteering at events is a rewarding experience. We invite you to join us at an event today!
Field Assembly volunteers for FIRST Robotics Competition assist with assembling the playing field and practice field on event set-up day, with tools and hardware provided, though volunteers are encouraged to bring their own safety glasses and gloves.
Field Disassembly volunteers for FRC assist with disassembling the playing field and practice field on event break-down day, with tools and hardware provided, though volunteers are encouraged to bring their own safety glasses and gloves.
The Load-In/Out Crew for FIRST Robotics Competition ensures safety and smooth team traffic flow during the transport of materials, including robots, at the start and end of events, with volunteers able to assist with either load-in or load-out independently.
The Volunteer Room Assistant assists the Volunteer Coordinator with volunteer check in and/or monitors the volunteer room.
The Practice Field Attendant schedules and monitors practice field usage, maintains cleanliness, protects electronics, and reports any malfunctions or damage to the Field Supervisor or FIRST Technical Advisor (FTA).
The Quiet Room Attedant oversees the Quiet Room and helps ensure that individuals using the room respect the nature of the space. The Quiet Room is a place for individuals to step away from the excitement and pressure of a FIRST event to decompress in silence. This room does NOT provide medically trained professionals, mental health care or support, or emergency services.
Safety Attendant volunteers assist the Safety Manager in maintaining a safe event by greeting visitors, distributing safety glasses at Safety Glass Stations, monitoring pedestrian traffic, and ensuring walkways and aisles are clear. Volunteers should uphold safety standards outlined in the FIRST Safety Manual and the FIRST Game & Event Rules Manual.
Field Resetter volunteers play a critical role in maintaining event pace by efficiently repairing and resetting the playing field after each match, a task that is typically very physically active.
The Pit Administrator provides direction, assistance, information, and support to teams and guests in the Pit, and may be asked to make announcements via the public-address system, in a physically active, fast-paced role.
Queuers ensure smooth match flow by managing team traffic to and from the field and restricting access to unauthorized individuals, in a role that is physically active.
The Emcee for FIRST Robotics Competition is a key volunteer responsible for setting the event's tone, creating a fun and exciting atmosphere, ensuring smooth match flow, and maintaining the event's pace to enhance the competition's quality.
The Game Announcer for FIRST Robotics Competition works with the Emcee to energize teams and spectators, ensuring smooth match flow, maintaining event pace, and enhancing the competition's overall quality.
The Judge Advisor Assistant (JAA) for FIRST Robotics Competition supports the Judge Advisor by coordinating with event staff to keep judges on schedule, managing food and drink delivery to the judge room, and refraining from team interviews or award decisions.
The Pit Administration Supervisor for FIRST Robotics Competition manages all Pit activities, coordinates the Pit Administration station, interfaces with teams, and collaborates with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
The Safety Manager for FIRST Robotics Competition oversees Safety Attendants to increase safety awareness, ensuring that teams, volunteers, and spectators understand, comply with, and practice safety fundamentals to protect all event participants. Volunteers in this role will receive training and uphold safety standards outlined in the FIRST Safety Manual and the FIRST Game & Event Rules Manual.
The Control System Advisor (CSA) for FIRST Robotics Competition assists teams with Robot Control System-related issues, collaborating with the FIRST Technical Advisor and Robot Inspectors to provide support, requiring strong technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to enhance the event's quality.

The Robot Inspector (RI) performs mandatory robot inspections for rule compliance, determines inspection outcomes, provides technical support to teams, and works under the Lead Robot Inspector in a physically active role.
The Scorekeeper for FIRST Robotics Competition operates the Field Management System (FMS) to manage scoring and field control, ensuring smooth match flow and maintaining the event's pace.
